Finding Release through Movement

Connecting with Other Parts

Motion Release (dance/movement) workshops are an integral part of the Delphi Awakening Retreat.

You might wonder: why?

Donald Woods Winnicott, a highly influential psychoanalyst and paediatrician, believed that ‘it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self’. Our dance/movement sessions offer an opportunity to engage with parts of ourselves that tend to be overlooked in our hectic and busy everyday lives. We tap into the sensations and movements created in and by the body and approach these with curiosity; and as best as we can with zero judgement.

Letting Go

When movement comes from within and we start to let go of conscious control, we engage with our right brain - allowing for insights, emotions, sensations and images to emerge. These are often valuable insights that can reveal internal unconscious processes that operate and affect our lives unbeknownst to us. Such an illumination invites our left brain (our logic) to engage too in the process, to analyse and integrate the unconscious energies and material in order for us to feel more aligned to ourselves and more whole.

Trust What Comes

‘Know thyself’ is one of the focal maxims we find at the entrance of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. Dancing and moving creatively can help us to develop self-knowledge and to begin to trust what comes from within. If we allow for the movements to be expressed, we then realise that these are metaphors that communicate to us what might be happening in our internal world. It is a fascinating and moving process. Moving and being moved!

An Invitation to Experiment

In terms of what happens in these workshops, there is no need to worry about performance, rhythm and talent. To the contrary actually…refined movement may often hide and detract us from what actually we need to be paying attention to. So, for our sessions please come as you are, take off the judge’s hat and be ready to play and to be creative. This is an invitation to experiment with new ways of being and to connect with your body in a meaningful, mindful and energising way.

If you are wondering ‘oh no, how am I supposed to do this?’, this is what we are there for…to show you the way. It will then be your journey to follow!

The different exercises are created in order to help you tap into what is within, bring it out, play with it and transform it if you wish. It is a gradual process and to your surprise it will unfold organically.

We can’t wait to move, dance and feel with you!
